WHAT TO WEAR UNDERNEATH YOUR WEDDING DRESS.
It’s a question we get asked a LOT. In fact, it’s probably one of our most frequently asked questions from brides. “What do I wear underneath my wedding dress?”. Here at Jill Jones Bridal, we’re experts when it comes to all things aisle style, so we thought heck! Let’s write a whole blog post about it!
Whether or not you’ve found your wedding dress yet (if you haven’t, hola at us ladies and let’s get you an appointment booked), your bridal lingerie is something you’re going to have to consider at some point. It’s an area to be organised in, rather than leaving it to the very last minute and finding yourself panicking. First things first, here’s what you need to think about when choosing what to wear under your wedding dress.
1 Is it comfortable?
We cannot stress this enough ladies! Comfort is KEY - especially on your wedding day. You’re going to be doing tonnes of standing, walking, sitting, dancing and moving in general, so you really do need to wear something that is comfortable all day long.
2 How does it make you feel?
Opt for something that makes you feel like a dazzling bride-to-be. Lingerie is always important, and your wedding day undies need to make you feel as special as you deserve. Opt for items that give you confidence and go crazy with it!
3 Is it functional?
So, it’s got to be comfortable to wear over a long period of time, make you feel sexy as hell, and… be functional. Miracles do happen! Practical bridal lingerie will make your life a whole lot easier and after a few glasses of wine and a trip to the loo, you’ll definitely be grateful you chose to wear something functional.
Wearing the wrong wedding lingerie can really make or break your gown. You don’t want to see any visible straps, lines or funny shapes! We suggest making an appointment at a lingerie store to really nail your underwear sizing (you’d be surprised at how many of us are wearing the wrong size) and bring along some snaps of your dress. Dependant on the gown you have chosen, you may not even need to wear a bra and we can often cinch you in so that your dress feels fully supportive!
When it comes to bras there are a few options, including plunge bras, strapless bras and seam-free bras. Your fitter will be able to advise which is the best option for you and your gown, and you’ll have the chance to try them on to make sure they tick off the ‘comfy’ category!
You’ve also got shapewear for those slinky silhouettes, a low-back bra converter if you’ve gone down the route of a backless gown – whatever design you’ve gone for, there will be the perfect underwear out there for you.
If you’re stuck on what colour underwear to purchase, some brides choose to match their undies to the colour of their dress, the material or your skin tone. We recommend trying them out and taking your time to work out which is the right choice for you!
