HOW TO STORE YOUR WEDDING DRESS AHEAD OF THE BIG DAY.
So, you’ve found the perfect wedding dress and you couldn’t be more excited to wear it, but how do you store it in the lead-up to the big day? You’re in luck, here are our top tips…
Where to store it
Your wedding dress should be stored in a cool, dry and dark place for the duration before you wear it. Always keep it away from direct sunlight and don’t store it alongside anything musty or damp – you don’t want your dress to smell.
How to store it
We recommend storing your dresses in breathable cloth bags or tissue paper. If you can, avoid using plastic covering so that your dress can breathe. Absorb any risk of moisture by adding a few silica gel packs! Don’t cram your dress into the wardrobe, make sure it has enough space so that it doesn’t get creased or damaged. Also, make sure it’s hung high enough so that it doesn’t get crumpled at the bottom.
How to hang it
Hang your wedding dress by ribbons inside the dress and ensure the weight is evenly distributed to make sure the shape is maintained. Opt for a good quality hang that’s sturdy, strong and padded where possible.
Resist the urge to get it out
Of course, you’re going to be super excited to wear your dress but resist the urge to keep unpacking it out the bag to have a look at it – especially trying it on! You’ll risk damaging it or marking it every time you do touch it.
Keep it out of sight
The above also applies to young children or even pets who may be able to access your dress!
Shoes, Jewellery + Hair Accessories
We always recommend to our brides to store your shoes and jewellery in the original packaging and boxes – with padding or acid-free tissue paper where needed. Make sure you remember the location that you’re going to store the items so you don’t lose them ahead of your special day!
The Veil
Store your wedding veil in a breathable garment bag, cloth bag or wrapped in tissue. Similarly, to your wedding dress, keep it away from direct sunlight and use some silica gel packs.
